A LETTER FROM CHRIS
I’m writing to update you on how recent developments in Washington may affect Seniors Resource Center (SRC) and our vital work in the community. Currently, we see no indication of change to our federal funding. However, the threat of freezing funding is a new twist that we must consider.
While our current federal funding remains stable, we are carefully preparing for potential changes. We anticipate some reduction in funding next fiscal year due to February 2024 amendments to the Older Americans Act (OAA). The OAA, established in 1965, is crucial in supporting programs that help older adults age in place.
Beyond funding concerns, I must acknowledge the broader challenges affecting many in our community, including our clients, their families, and friends. Let me be clear – SRC stands firmly committed to serving all people with dignity and respect. This commitment reflects not only our organizational values but also my persona conviction that every individual deserves care, support and encouragement.
Our aging population is growing rapidly, and demand for our services is increasing at an unprecedented rate. Support from our community is more crucial than ever. Your continued partnership and generosity to help ensure that we can maintain and expand our essential services to meet growing needs.
Our dedication to helping seniors age with dignity and providing essential support to caregives has never been stronger. We will continue to adapt and innovate to meet the evolving needs of our community.
If you’re able to help us sustain these vital services please consider making a gift. Every contribution makes a meaningful difference in the lives of local seniors.
In ongoing partnership,
Chris Lynn

IN HOME CARE
>>> INTEGRATED CARE: SUPPORTING INDEPENDENCE AT HOME
Senior Resource Center’s In Home Care program demonstrates how comprehensive support can help older adults maintain their independence while aging in place. In a recent media interview, Tia Sauceda, Senior Director of Services, and Tami Phillips, Personal Care Provide, shared insights into SRC’s approach to dignified, person-centered care.
“As people age, they often face increasing challenges with mobility and daily tasks that can affect their safety and ability to live independently,” explains Sauceda. “Our role at SRC is to provide the assistance they need to continue thriving in their own homes.”
The programs success stems from its integrated care model, where personal care providers work closely with care managers and families to ensure comprehensive support. Phillips, who provides direct care to clients, emphasizes the importance of this collaborative approach: “We monitor our clients’ well-being weekly and maintain open communication with care managers and family members to address any concerns promptly.”
Services include assistance with: personal hygiene, meal preparation, essential daily tasks, and most importantly, companionship.

“Quality care is our highest priority,” Sauceda emphasizes. “We invest extensively in staff training and carefully match our services to each client’s specific needs. Our goal is to ensure people receive care that not only meets their practical needs but also preserves their dignity and supports their ability to thrive at home.”
The program recognizes that welcoming support into one’s home can be a significant adjustment. “We understand this transition can be challenging,” notes Phillips. Sauceda agrees stating, “Our top priority is that people are cared for in the way that they want allowing them to have dignity and thrive within their home.”

ADULT DAY PROGRAM
>>> MORE THAN MEMORY: NUTURING THE WHOLE PERSON
Living with dementia affects every aspect of a person’s life – far beyond just memory. At SRC’s Adult Day Program, we embrace this understanding through a comprehensive curriculum designed to engage the whole person. Here’s how our program makes a difference:
Building Connections Through Socialization
When participants spend time with peers, they find more than friendship – they discover a powerful tool against cognitive decline. Regular social interaction reduces isolation, lowers stress, enhances mental health, and creates a vital sense of community belonging.
Exercising the Mind Through Learning
Our morning learning groups tackle diverse topics, knowing that acquiring new knowledge strengthens neural pathways. This continuous learning process helps maintain cognitive function and memory capacity, keeping minds active and engaged.
Staying Active, Staying Sharp
Daily exercise and active games do more than just improve physical health. These activities enhance balance, coordination, and endurance while challenging participants’ spatial awareness and ability to follow multi-step instructions.
The Power of Music
Even as other memories fade, musical memories often remain strong. Our musical entertainment sessions tap into this remarkable phenomenon, triggering positive emotions and cherished memories while promoting overall well-being.
“Seniors Resource Center contributes to our well being by being so kind and welcoming to my husband and taking very good care of him. He enjoys the Center so much!”

Awakening Memories Through Engagement
Through carefully designed trivia games, memory exercises, and reminiscence activities, our skilled group leaders help participants access memories they thought were lost. These activities provide both cognitive stimulation and moments of joy in recollection.
Creating and Connecting
Art and creative activities serve as both therapy and celebration. While improving fine motor skills and concentration, these projects offer something equally valuable: opportunities for self-expression and the pride of achievement.

Whether you’re an older adult or a caregiver to one, coordinating care for yourself or someone else can be tough to do on your own. There are dozens of resources, programs, and organizations that support caregivers and older adults, but they aren’t always easy to find. Even if you know where to look, you still might not be sure what support is right for you or how to access it.
If you don’t know what support you need, don’t worry. SRC will work with you to determine the best ways they can support you.
All you have to do is reach out.
CARE MANAGEMENT
>>> SUPPORT TAILORED TO YOU
You deserve support that’s tailored to you. By enrolling in Seniors Resource Center services, you’ll be connected with a Care Manager for one-on-one support. They can help you identify appropriate services and adjust as your needs change.
Our care managers are experts in connecting you with the support you need. We’ll take the time to listen, ask questions, and make sure we understand before recommending customized, holistic care.
